Sea Limited reinforces its commitment to driving inclusive growth through SGX Bull Charge Virtual Charity Run
Sea Limited joins this year’s roster of sponsors for the SGX Bull Charge Virtual Charity Run. Aiming to drive inclusive growth, their involvement in the Virtual Charity Run is in line with the company’s mission to support and empower communities, especially the most vulnerable.
Sea was founded in Singapore in 2009 and today has grown to become a leading global consumer internet company. Sea is one of only a handful of companies to operate market-leading businesses in each of the three largest segments of the digital economy – digital entertainment (Garena), e-commerce (Shopee), and digital financial services (SeaMoney) – across a diverse range of markets globally.
And as a homegrown company, its local roots fuel its commitment to give back to the communities it serves by leveraging the power of technology.
Bettering Lives Through Technology
As part of Sea’s 10-year anniversary celebrations last year, it launched ’10 in 10’ – a major initiative that aims to provide at least 10 million people across Southeast Asia and Taiwan over the next 10 years with the skills and training needed to thrive in the region’s rapidly growing digital economy. Programmes under 10 in 10 target three core goals:
Developing the skills of the future:
These programs focus on equipping the region’s workforce with the skills and information they need to succeed and thrive in the economy of the future. This includes specialised areas such as coding and data science as well as increasingly important softer skills such as training in running online businesses.
Broadening access to knowledge and training:
These programs seek to narrow the digital skills gap by enabling more communities to have access to knowledge and training – from rural dwellers who may not have immediate training opportunities in their area to older workers who want to upgrade their existing skills and to underprivileged communities lacking access to quality learning resources.
Bridging industry, academia and policy-makers:
These programs will focus on furthering cross-sectoral dialogue and cooperation between industry, academics and policy-makers and shapers to share best practices and ideas that can inform policy-making and business decisions.
Creating a More Inclusive Digital Economy
In these unprecedented times, Sea remains focused on helping communities adapt through this transition by providing platforms, tools, and training to help more consumers and businesses benefit from the digital economy. In Singapore, of the latest programmes rolled out this year include:
The Sea Company-led Training (CLT) Programme – under the TechSkills Accelerator Initiative (TeSA), a collaboration with the Infocomm Media Development Authority (IMDA), the Sea CLT commits to hiring and training 500 Singaporeans over the next two years. The programme marks the largest ever TeSA CLT for a Singapore-based company.

The Shopee Seller Support Package (SSSP) – provides seller support to help SMEs accelerate their ability to build an online presence, diversify revenue streams, and succeed sustainably. The SSSP consists of an incubation program, giving new sellers access to Shopee’s operational support services and equipping them with the necessary skills to operate their online stores efficiently.

The launch of Shopee’s E-Commerce Booster Package, which aims to help support brands and sellers digitalise their business in partnership with Enterprise Singapore (ESG).
Sea also saw the continued success of Shopee Code League in 2020 – a 2-month online coding challenge that aims to develop a steadfast pipeline of talent who will make a difference in the tech world of tomorrow. The programme has seen over 45,000 coders trained to date.
In addition to these programmes, the Shopee-SUTD Scholarship and Shopee-SIT Scholarship were also launched earlier this year to create opportunities for financially disadvantaged students to pursue degrees in technology.
